Having the horses head to its chest is not painful, unless you are pulling them down into it. They are taught to carry their heads that way.

I think that was wonderful, although I don't like how many dressage horses are hyperflexed and way behind the vertical, though I do understand the time and training that goes into dressage, I do not like when they are hyper flexed or behind the vertical.

Wow! This is ABSOLUTELY Gorgeous! I really love dressage when it's like this! I really love this horse, absolutely amazing! Its horrible she made that little mistake with the failed lead change, but this was great! If only they were in first, they deserved it :D

Anita, the horse here was not hyperflexxed. This horse is completely comfortable, and is taught to carry its head like that, without pain. You can totally tell the horses nose is not forcably pressed against the chest, but the neck is arched and the hed perpendicular to the ground.

Anita: To piggyback on ktmay96 - And the purpose of this is to allow thehorse to bring her hind legs under her. This allows her to do all the fancy footwork. Rollkur has never been used on her and never will be, particularly since the FEI has now banned it. Yahoo!!

I'm piggybacking on kken and ktmay. Martine's flex at the poll is correct and not overdone. If you check some of the hundreds of dressage videos on YouTube, you'll see many tests in which it's obvious the horses have been trained using rollkur or hyperflexion. We should all applaud the FEI for banning this horrible training method.

Martine has been taught over a lengthy training period, gently, to "give" to the rider's hands. At this point, she needs only light cues from Andreas. She is not resisting the bit or running through it - she's perfectly poised and collected under light hands. In many horses trained using hyperflexion, you can see resistance to the aids if a horse grabs the bit and tenses up or tucks his head to the chest because of heavy hands.

Horses properly trained are ASKED to carry themselves a certain way. Horses whose noses are cranked to touch their chests cannot breathe, think, or see.

Oh yes yes yes, I know, I said I liked THIS horse, but MANY dressage horses are hyperflexed and behind the vertical, but I did state that I thought this particular one was wonderful. Just to clarify :)

yes this man is a professional at freestyle :) regardless of the slight mistake which cost him the win :) few EVER reach this freedom with thieir horse ever, still :) This is flat out beautiful
