Flex Youtube Interface
Uploaded by: Benzomat2
Video Description:
I got an official statement from youtube that my youtube app does not confirm to the youtube terms of use. So i made a camtasia record to show it here. I think this app shows well how Flex and Zinc can be combined for rapid application development and it`s a nice example of an occasionally connected client. I hope that the same type of applications will also be possible with apollo. Here a the key feautures:
- Search Youtube
- Display Videos in a Custom (not Youtube) Player.
- Save Videos Offline
- Organize downloaded Videos in categories
- Export downloaded Videos to ordinary AVI files and save them on your machine.

Wow this is amazing, you need to PM me.. I had this same idea but I Don't do coding. So what's next are you going to release it for free put it on a website for download or what. I think it would be big. Also what exactly made it not met terms of use? The fact that it's downloading the video.

I actually was working on a whole redesign of the youtube site that I never sent in because I don't code. But this is such a good idea. You really need to make it for apollo and give it, it's own site. So people can download it and use it with youtube.

YouTube has no say ... ( 10 months ago by Anonymous59)
YouTube has no say in the matter. They have no right to tell you what you can and can't do. The Terms of Use do not matter in the slightest. Everyone has the right to access content from websites on the public and free Internet in any way they want and to write and distribute applications to do so. That's standard corporate idiocy, and I'm 90% sure it has no legal weight and is unenforceable. The Terms of Use are not a contract.

Why doesn't YouTube have the right to restrict the utilization of a service they provide for "free" ? If you let me run an extension cord up to your house so I could occasionally run my laptop, but instead I used the line to power my Washer & Dryer, AC, and Welding Torch, wouldn't you feel inclined to tell me what to do?

Good question...I don't see really how this could possibly hurt the company, since if I remember correctly, this allows you to fetch videos from the website. When someone uses it, they get benefit with no cost to anyone, unless there happens to be advertising on the particular video page, in which case they or the advertising company might miss out on profits indirectly. It might have something to do with the way I see the net - this website is free, so why can't I use a different browser?

With regards to your electricity example - yeah, I would feel inclined to tell you what to do. I think that situation is a bit like if so many people were mass-downloading videos off YouTube that they could no longer afford to keep the site running, then they would have to restrict the way people use the site. Interesting things to think about I guess.
