This version is awesome. I'm a big Beefheart fan, but it occurs to me that anyone unfamiliar with him will probably think he sounds awful here, as he's not really singing but more growling/wailing. (I still love it, though.)

I think you have a point Ominick DVV was supposed to have a five octave rarnge (or whatever) but live - check out the live in Liverpool CD - it seems about three quarters of an octave max of course that's no reason not to love him

From what I understand, this vocal style was typical at the end of his career - if you look at some older videos on here, such as "I'm Gonna Booglarize You" or "Sure 'Nuff 'N Yes I Do" (both live), you can hear the vocals he's famous for. I do love the way he sounds here, though; I love voices that don't have conventional beauty but have power and character (Dylan and Tom Waits are other great ones).
