They carry an arsenal in their vehicles, but in a long range operation there would be no need for one. The word "always" doesn't really apply to SWAT. It stands "special weapons and tactics" which means they always improvise for the situation.

yeah cheers man that would be great! I mean im seriously thinking about joining, Ive always wanted to be in law enforcement but I just want something more than being a normal patrol officer. SERT gives me the opportunity to make society a better place and work in a team with a bunch of other highly trained guys. I just love it when you plan an assault that is so organised that the criminal doesnt even know whats hit him =P

LAPD Swat uses the Kimber (LAPD SWAT Custom 2) and have used it for about 10 years now. Before then they used 1911's they confiscated from criminals and customized them themselves.
