There's just no fire or passion in any of her performances. Just the script carries her along. She has never done any real bad films and they are all watchable and enjoyable but again there is never any fire.Most lead actress can make you either hate them or fight to the death for them but Novak always leaves me empty no matter how attractive she is she just doesn't make me want to "go crazy " for her.

Maybe she is just too independant and not so needy as some women come off on a film.Perhaps she was ahead of her time in her acting skills, more of a laid back seventies style not needing anybody and not the soft clinging babes of her generation lead us to believe existed.maybe I should retract my comments on her acting abilities, maybe she was much more stylized and proficient than I realized.she was box office for a reason she always delivered "THE GOODS"

Is she cool and detatched, or just spaced out? It's for the audience to decide. Didn't interfere with the flow of Vertigo or Bell Book & Candle. Maybe a welcome relief from all the drama queens of her day? Anyway, I think I read somewhere that her first job was doing refrigerator ads.

William Holden is sooooo handsome, one of the most romantic scenes in any film I have ever seen and perfect music to match it. I would buy this dvd if I could just for this scene in it. ;) xxx

In many of the Novak films mentioned earlier, her characters were SUPPOSED TO BE cool & detached, w/ enveloping sensuality bubbling just beneath the surface.
That was the whole point.
Some people just never get the point.
Too bad.
They always wind up missing out on so much...

No doubt, as some film reviewers have commented, there was a 'wooden' aspect to many of Kim Novak's roles. But, this icy feature only adds to her appeal. There is a virtue in knowing your limitations and keeping yourself as an adjunct rather than an distraction to a compelling script. Kim's participation in many of the most famous films of the 1950's and 60's has cemented her place cinema history. Long after we are gone, movie goers will still be enjoying her art and compelling beauty.

This is one of my favorite movies. INTERESTING TRIVIA.....the young star Bill Holden is dancing with in the "first" scene here....my wifes father dated her in college once, before she was a star.

Pay attention kids, this is sexiness, and chemistry between 2 people without saying anything or taking anybodys clothes off! They are hooked and if you can't see that or feel it just by watching, your not breathing. Watch as she comes down the stairs, when she gets to the bottom ,she stops but not really. She's still moving a little to the music never taking her eyes off of him. Woof! Is it hot in here!

A bum moves into your neighborhood, didn't want to do any serious work other than rake up some leaves, couldn't hack college or even stick around to coach some jr. varsity or whatever job they handed out to guys like him back then. Leaves town the same way he came in; on rails.
