Well growing up in ... ( 1 year ago by BertoV)
Well growing up in Pilsen, I would feel that latinos moving back to Pilsen would be to keep Pilsen a Latin Political powerhold, we need to look at the actual racialized geography that is formed through the real estate market
latinos moving back ... ( 1 year ago by BertoV)
latinos moving back to Pilsen is not as frowned upon because they are professional latinos moving back into a neighborhood they grew up in and can now help; the whole notion of 'why is it okay for affluent Latinos to move in but not whites is an easy 'divide and conquer" method
Old timers coming ... ( 1 year ago by cklaus85276)
Old timers coming back eh? What about the thousands of old timers coming back who had white parents. Is the question now: How many years must it be for you to live in the old neighborhood in order to attain old timer status. Should this organization issue pins certifying the status of people in the neighborhood who obviously aren't immigrants?

As a recent resident to the Pilsen neighborhood (previously Calumet City), I find it appauling that you use the word gentrified to explain that you are seeing more white people. As a recent resident and caucasion male i find this blatent discrimination rediculous. If a white neighborhood came on and openly stated, "we want to keep this neighborhood all white; we dont want Mexicans or Blacks here", there would be every activist in the city saying that its racist. Kill this double standard.

As an American of mexican descent living in Boston, MA, I too find it disturbing that they're using the word gentrification because there are more white people.
These women are ... ( 1 year ago by yayaya123)
These women are racists and Hispanic supremacists. They don't want whites in "their" neighborhoods. Can you imagine the sh*t storm that would erupt if whites were actively trying to keep Hispanics out of their neighborhoods? Hispanic hypocrisy!

Did you watch the video?
Your name-calling is flat-out unjustified.

Yes I did watch the video, ergo, my comment. These women admit that the hispanic community wants to keep out a certain group of people because of their skin color. That's called "racism."

I've spent hours with these women, and that's not how I read what they're saying.
You're reading into what you hear, not reporting what you hear. On eof them isn't even Hispanic!
racism can only be ... ( 11 months ago by jammersburn)
racism can only be propagated by white people against other people of color. Technically, racism in this context isn't happening. It's a frank discussion of sociological concepts. This is a classic example of interactions between the ingroup and the outgroup.
These ladies were ... ( 10 months ago by fonseca71)
These ladies were not speaking with any malice or hate at all. I can't believe someone got that after watching this video. However change happens, period! The strong can adapt with it, and the weak will look for support or stay till they are kicked out. I do understand that they would fight property tax increase. Why wouldn't you?
gentrification ... ( 8 months ago by inikokir)
gentrification stripped the old chicago clean of its culture, now all thats here are obnoxious racists north face wearing yuppies from the horror stats like iowa and minnesota.
sucks that lincoln park now is whites only, i got fined when i went there for being too ethnic looking,

I'm as ethnic as you are and never had your problem - perhaps it's your narrow-minded hate-mongering attitude that's got you there.
Aren't you a bit young to have gotten so old and crotchety?

I live in the ... ( 8 months ago by geeman215)
I live in the Wicker Park area and that area might be the only neighborhood in the History of Chicago that has reverted BACK to a predominately White neighborhood. I fully undestand gentrification and economic empowerment that happens all over this country. I can tell ya, get your camera ready for The Humboldt Park area because gentrification is creeping into that area as well, and there is gonna be a lot of adversley affected Hispanic folks from the Humbodlt park area as well.
