They did blame the guy pulling the trigger, as it would be tough to sentence a gun to do jail time. However, all potentially deadly things need to have limitations put on them. Alcohol and tobacco have minimum age restrictions...there are speed limits and traffic signs and rules for driving. Why would you think that guns, which were designed for killing, should have no limitations on them?

It isn't about being a good person or not, especially since it's already been pointed out that only *law-abiding* citizens actually give a sh*t about the laws, and the criminals don't anyways. It's about the potential for accidents. It would take a lot more effort to kill someone with a bic pen (or even a knife, for that matter) than it would to kill someone with a gun...even if you never meant to. I don't expect you to understand, as America is still a very young country.

Guns are not *necessary* in America for the average citizen, and that is what you are...average. You're not special. No one is saying you can't have guns...though they maybe are saying, you can't own *certain gun types*, or maybe just limiting the number of guns you can buy in a year. I certainly don't think this is unreasonable. To me, it's no different than driving...you need to *earn* your license first, and then certain vehicle types are not legal to be driven on public roads (race cars, for example) for various reasons. And then for the ones that can, there are rules in place.

Driving should be viewed as a privilege, and taken way more seriously than some do. Talking on your cell phone while driving should get you one massive fine, and then the second time should be a license suspension, IMO. Gun ownership should be held in the same regard, with the exception that I know it is not a necessity to carry a concealed weapon, as the country I live in doesn't allow that, and we have a much lower crime rate than you do.

Don't you go looping all americans into the same sterotype and judging a country based on its depiction of war in movies. I'm not special, I'm not better, but I do stand a better chance of coming out of a violent confrontation alive. Necessity? maybe not. But self preservation is a God given right that cannot be legislated away by someone who feels bad because some uneducated 8 year old shot his friends face off.

hahaha...and yet, there you go...you say that you definitively stand a better chance of coming out of a violent confrontation alive...and yet, you cannot *definitively* say that in all honesty. You might want to *believe* that, and maybe in a small number of violent situations, you may, but the catch is: you do NOT control the circumstances of the situation.
