Plain & simple, Layne Staley had the greatest voice I've ever heard. His vocal range was limitless.

This is just such a fucking badass song. OK this is a theory of mine and i don't need to get yelled at however, tell me if you can see what I mean: It seems to me layne has what i like to call "grandpa chin" You know your grandpa's chewin shit that ain't there!?!? Well no were near as severe however TO ME, it seems you can tell within his voice and jaw structure that the years of crack are starting to effect his teeth which in return is altering his voice JUST A TAD. Of course it only got worse

I wouldn't even call that a theory as much as I'd say it's a fact. You can REALLY fuck up your teeth in a matter of MONTHS from hardcore coke/crack usage.
To show what you're saying watch "Alice in Chains live on Letterman". Right at 2:00, watch Layne. It's like he realizes his mouth was open enough to where the camera would show his teeth (which were literally rotten). He immediately closes his mouth & looks down with this kind of ashamed look on his face. It's a VERY sad sight. :(
