No, it's just that in space. There are no particles for the pressure to pass through. For sound to occur in such a cold environment, there would have to enough atoms for it go through in order to extend the vibrations. But, in such frigid temperatures, the atoms are hardly even vibrating themselves.

space is too cold for the attoms to vibrate fast enough to produce any sound. No. And a start exploding isnt gass...infact its plasma. and gas and the four main compound phases are Solid, liquid,gas, and plasma. A star is plasma. Think of a neon light. Do you hear it? A flouresnt light...that is plasma. Very hot...but makes little to no sound. A star is plasma. The gasses taht burn on a star makes plasma. So you can't classify a star as a burning ball of gas but a ball of plasma. NO SOUND AT ALL

i would say that your idea is not true, the star is obviously producing massive amounts of energy thus heating the "air" around it. particles and molecules that surround the star are hot enough to produce sound. if the star was still then it would not be burning. the key to the lack of sound is due to the fact that space does not have the molecular density to sustain or traverse sound waves. the waves end where the vacuum begins.

People keep commenting on this video saying that the smaller star is either a neutron star or a black hole. It is neither. It will be a white dwarf and this supernova is a type 1a supernova. This happens when the white dwarf approaches the Chandrasekhar limit of about 1.38 solar masses, by "feeding" on a companion star. A large portion of the white dwarf suddenly undergoes nuclear fusion, with enough energy to unbind the star in a supernova.
