When younger I didn't appreciate the miricles that were right in front of me, like babies, a huge red/orange sunset, night skies bejeweled with stars, etc..Watching Aretha and listening to the sound emanating from this woman's vocal cords is a miracle. I took the sound of her voice for granted in my youth. Not now, though. Not ever again. I thank God for it!!

One thing you overlooked,ARETHA IS TRULY TALENTED.those people you mentioned are only talented in a superficial way,not the deep invigorating Miss Franklin does. And please do not forget the OVER-RATED mary j.blige! if there ever was an example of what hype can do, look no farther than mary j. Sadly we will never see the calibre of singing again. Aretha and marvin,,,and yes even Elvis, grew up listening to such gospel greats as the Famed Davis Sisters of Philadelphia and the Soul Stirrers and Caravans of Chicago. If you knew of these groups, you would easily understand why their approach and delivery is so moving! That Gospel from the 1950s trained many soul singers of the 60s! All of them borrowed heavily from that genre when singing their gospel flavored R&B.
