There's no enthusiasm in the vocals. The detuning just makes it sound too floppy. It sounds too slow. The studio version - they just sounded like they fuckin' MEANT it, you know? I saw 'em on that tour, and it was cool to see them play all these old songs that I love, but they just weren't as intense. It's like seeing Metallica play "Kill 'Em All" tracks. The intensity is just lost.

Okay I see what you mean, though I think the darker atmosphere in this makes up for the lost intensity. I can understand if you don't like this type of sound however, 'cause mostly I hate it when old bands try to "modernize" their sound too, but I think that Celtic Frost managed to pull it off and still sound awesome.

The newest album had some pretty cool, dark atmospheric moments on it, I just think they should have put more energy into their old stuff. Either way though, "To Mega Therion" is just about the heaviest thing I ever heard.

Damn right. This is a devastating performance and the Frost were/are way more thrash than Metallica could ever hope to be, it's a shame most of the mainstream "metalheads" will never realise that.

Metallica versus Celtic Frost is like apples and oranges... Its a dumb comparison. M are obviously superior musicians. They were also on the THRASH scene long before CF. To top that off, their styles are very different. I loved both bands back in the day, for different reasons. Why does everything have to be a contest? I could dig on "Phantom Lord" or "Battery" back to back with "Circle of the Tyrants" and "Visions of Mortality" without a problem. There is more DOOM feel to CF, which I like...

Celtic Frost was awesome before Cold Lake. Monotheist was incredible...but Tom's attempt to sell out with Cold Lake, and his fussy little attitude are unacceptable.

even metallica's 80's albums are utter dogshit compared to this. why must we compare every band that exists to metallica? thier fucking gay! the most common denominator for comparing bands, is that they must be of the same genre. ie: slayer with nuclear assault (thrash), or Cannibal Corpse with Deeds Of Flesh (death).
because Celtic Frost is in a world of its own style, nothing can be compared to it. Celtic Frost fucking owns!
