I heard that Dallas ISD hired this kid back in June to give the speech in August. He practiced quite a bit. It shows. He is a youth preacher, and has won many oratorical contests. He is a bright young man.

Dallas ISD people wrote the speech. His church community supported the memorization process. This was not his message, except insofar as he absorbed
 it as he recited it. All this from a school district which has preached about the evils of rote memorization to begin with. And now, it has fired hundreds of teachers and staff. This is an insult to all of us in the public schools, and a testament to old-school, churchified, oratorical practice.

This is something every school district could and should do at the beginning of the school year. Involve more students, plan and prepare beginning in June to inspire and remind teachers what their students are capable of doing given the right amount of planning and support.

If we had the spirit and heart he showed we wouldn't be complaining and looking for ways to discredit. It is a sure sign of failure to look for flaws in others instead of celebrating what they achieve. Open your heart to his spirit and his energy and you'll fell the AMEN!
