But indeed... Aesma Daeva is great... and they sing Symphonic Metal. Opera Metal doesn't exist because when u say Symphonic Metal u can refer to any of it's variations (Gothic Metal, Symphonic Rock, Melodic Power Metal, Progressive metal, Classical music and perhaps other metal sub genres related to it)

That's your opinion.. some people say Symphonic Metal doesn't exist. I say Opera Metal because their vocalist actually utilizes real operatic vocals to the fullest instead of pseudo operatic vocals like Tarja and the rest... plus they incorporate far more progressive elements than Symphonic. Exam
ples they have a heavier/slower almost DOOM sound, they experiment with different instruments and sounds. To me that's not what Symphonic Metal is.

**There's a major difference between let's say Therion and this band. I for one enjoy the progressiveness of their sound.. makes this band tolerable to listen to and frankly not generic sounding.

**Onto Epica.. What tendency towards Gothic? If you actually think a crossbreed between Nightwish and Evanescence is Gothic then you seriously need your ears checked. Just another commercial/generic so called Symphonic Metal. Nothing more nothing less.

hi Tempesta.
first, I agree that Aesma Daeva is great.
But, when you start critisising a band like Nigthwish and talk about how generic it is, I don't agree.
I don't like the new Nightwish much, but the old one is speciel, they had magic in their music, maybe not THE MOST talented musicians in the world and maybe they began doing more and more "catchy" pop melodies as they went populair...
Still, they are above average technicly and Tarja does have a talented and trained voice.

This is the best operatic metal band i have heard, all others are just bland sounding, nothing of substance. Aesma Daeva is the greatest, especially Here Lies One Whose Name Was Written in Water, and the New Athens Ethos.

Dude you said it ;) I've been saying that for years! Aesma Daeva is the only true Operatic Metal band out there. The rest are all female fronted symphonic metal bands. And for me Tarja is a way crappy singer, so overrated, dear lord. Melissa is cool, but Lori = power \m/
