Well done, Steve. ... ( 1 month ago by keyboardwhiz)
Well done, Steve. Always loved the opening bass line and the Hammond jamming at the end of the tune; this version blissfully extends it. Steve was so young and so dynamic. I seem to remember thinking Steve was African-American the first time I heard this song way back when. For me he's in rarified territory when it comes to singers: Wilson Pickett, David Ruffin, Sam Cooke. So it's sort of poignant seeing him strain at times in this video. But it creates this great scream/sing
effect.

No hate mail from me. R & B/soul music is at the top of the list of this white boy. I remember growing up in the 50s and 60s in a town with NO blacks. So when I was 13 in 1964 and discovered soul music, my world changed forever in terms of what my standards were. For me, Wilson Pickett, Sam Moore and David Ruffin are about as good as it gets and Steve Winwood is as good in his own way as any of them.

I have always found that black american (blues, soul, motown, rap and hip hop is not music) music has always been the white mans music in britain for example in America there is: BB King, Buddy Guy, Solomon Burke, Jimi Hendrix... and in Britain there is: Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Steve Winwood, Eric Burdon... anyone else notice that

Hey dude don't be silly, Stevie Winwood was not only 'a not very well known singer'. He's one of most important people on modern R&B in '60, up to now. There he was only 19. Pls Have a walk trough 'Spencer Davis Group', 'Traffic' or! 'Blid Faith', the greates 'superband' with Clapton, Ginger Baker and Grectch afther 'Cream'!... OH, and if you wanna get the best version of 'Georgia on my mind', him featured it with his 'SDG' in the B side or 'I'm a man' single. Maybe I'm talking about '66.

Personally I never thought to compare Winwood and Lord. Seems like two different overall approaches to the keys. Traffic was jazzy prog while Deep Purple was metal (except for one album). I guess hard to compare. Like them both, but don't listen to one as a replacement for the other. Listen to Traffic/Winwood to kick back, Deep Purple to Rock.
toolkien - Traffic ... ( 2 weeks ago by BostonRocker51)
toolkien - Traffic can be easily pegged as progressive & jazzy but I saw them 3 times, totally loved their early stuff and felt their psychedelic and rock roots and interest in mellow (but aware) music were deeper than any jazz roots. Consider their version of the traditional song John Barleycorn - hardly jazz, yes? I know it's easy to stereotype a band, etc., but I disagree that Traffic was jazzy prog.

I think this is one of the best songs ever written and played. I don't care if it wasn't done by the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Beach Boys, doesn't matter, this song starts out strong and never really quits. This video is a privilege to watch.
