Hawaii is a state! And Hawaii and all of those territories that you mentioned are within the North American continent!! But we do only have 48 states and no territories on and within the US mainland! We don't have 57 states technically! It's certainly something that you will not find on the website for the US Geographical Survey, it's not going to be listed on any map, it's not what you'll find if you search on Google Maps, but we do have 57 states!
