Officials in southern Haiti say at least people are daed after demonstrations against rising food prices turned into riots. U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon is calling on the international community and Haiti's leaders to keep up their efforts to bring stability to the country.
STORY: Scores of Haitians rioted in the southern town of Les Cayes, blocking roads and looting stores. Some also fired shots at UN peace-keepers and they fired back in response. Haitians have been staging sporadic protests against the soaring cost of food for two days running. Haiti is the poores

s about corruption, then about double nationality and now again about corruption... We want them to know we understand the game the government's playing; all we ask is to bring down food prices." Prime Minister Jacques Edouard Alexis condemned the violence but said drug dealers had manipulated the
demonstrations. [Jacques Edouard Alexis, Haitian Prime Minister]: "Do not let others tell you what is not right. For example, when they blame the UN for the high cost of living...the Haitian government does not spend any money on the UN's budget." He announced $10 million will be put towards bring
ing down food costs and putting people to work. Les Cayes is reported tense after the riots, with the UN bolstering its forces to the volatile country in a bid to restore calm.

| Haiti is not the only blame-the United States should also carry the blame.They Used haiti then shut them out with an embargo so no trade comes in. When the big storm hit Haiti, they needed help but the united states didnt do a thing...Why? because right now, Haiti has nothing to offer the US--so much for philantropism. But when China go through something like this, the united states react quickly. The US is like a parisite, they strong arm everyone resouces but then try to play the victim. |

| First of all, you better learn your history, not look up parts of the history that sounds good to you. Haiti was built on corruption. Everytime Haiti attempted to go along the right course, it is influenced by Whites through corruption. The united states invaded haiti for their own reason back in the 1900s thus building more corruption, then placed an embargo as well. | It's because the immigrants are selected for education, whereas the natural-born aren't selected at all. Immigrants from Nigeria don't have the highest rate of undergraduate degrees because Nigerians are super smart, but because Nigerians have little chance to emigrate to the US without a degree. The United States thing they are better then everyone else which they are entiled to, however, they should follow the rule. | Best wishes 2 you too. But please refresh my history when did the U.S. assist China? Last I remember they had an outbreak of SARS and we sent a few doctors. But that would be the case with any country if a major health outbreak were to happen. The only other reason the U.S. is so complacent to China is because they own half of our money but doesn't the U.S. aid Haiti? It does and unfortunately the thugs who administer your country keep it. | The US didn't do a thing??? Just goggle US aid to Haiti. After the hurricanes the US delivered $29mill in aid which covered a spectrum of needs. This probably doesn't seem like much becuz Haiti is so completely fucked that this money only keeps them from completely starving. There are 2 many people in Haiti for the resource base. They need to control their fertility rates to start. Condoms, abortions, IUDs, etc. U cant have 15 kids when u can't even feed 1. This is not racist just commonsense. |
