I fish in Manitoba ... ( 1 year ago by scoobyDx)
I fish in Manitoba and Ontario (Canada) and i've always had much more luck with lures. Pike are predatory animals, and they primarily feed on other, smaller fish. Spoons work well for me, as due more complex lures.

do a search for "Big Pike Fishing" it's posted by nhart189. That's the kind of huge pike you can catch if you go up north in Canada. Amazing fun!

oh yeah, i've just never caught one that big before. If you want the really big ones you gotta rent a float plane and go to North west territories, or northern manitoba. There are lakes that you can only get too with float plane that are just full of monster fish. fish-canada[dot]com/images/canada_northern_pike[dot]jpg

I think competition ... ( 1 year ago by GabrielsNob)
I think competition angling is a menace - Most of those Pike will be dead within a few days due to being man handled and out of the water for so long. A Pike only has to be out of the water for 30 seconds with its chances of survival decreased by 50%
Thankyou for ... ( 1 year ago by Polyfooka)
Thankyou for sharing your concerns Gabrielsnob, we folks in the angling world are indeed guilty of not taking the welfare of the fish seriously enough. I for one, do have a conscience and I am seriously considering hanging up the fishing rod for good.
I am really glad to ... ( 1 year ago by GabrielsNob)
I am really glad to hear that you take conservation seriously. However, giving up fishing totally might be going to far for me. In many ways the responsible angler is an asset to the conservation cause, keeping the developers at bay and fighting to keep our waters healthy. My point is that we have to fish sparingly and with sensitivity something that competition angling singularly fails to do. We need to prove that anglers are not all yahoos.
I am from Cavan ... ( 1 year ago by smccaffrey1)
I am from Cavan where this video was shot, spoons are good for smaller pike up to 5lb but for really big pike, I allways use dead bait roach for really big pike -frozen dead bait is not good -better catching roach from the same lake on the day and using them -allways works for me- got a 16lb one last summer, my personal record using roach
If you don't want ... ( 11 months ago by jubbles2343)
If you don't want to, kill the fish then go shark fishing, a 25kg Gully shark for example can survive out of water for up to 30mins. is it the same in fresh water fishing?

i managed to get my thumb stuck in a 17 lb, pikes gills....this was on the bank and it started flippin an shredded the best part of my thumb!!....it wasnt fatal, but had some very deep razor cuts all over my thumb.....and if u want to know how it happend, was because i was in-experienced on how to pick pike up, and still am, and i held it in the wrong place, i still dnt know how to hold them like most do, as im used to big carp fishing, but i like to go piking in winter
im not being funny, ... ( 9 months ago by jeckle21)
im not being funny, but i really dnt beleive the facts that your trying to state here....if this was true, ther wouldnt be many pike left atall, and i think it would be against the law if pike wer so low in numbers, but they are not.......pike are strong fish, withstand all kinds of weather etc, im sure that having a little peek at the outside world for a few minutes isnt goin to upset them too much...

In america they have forgotten what fishing is about. they only think about bass now.
Mate, you shouldn't ... ( 2 months ago by Blastsniper)
Mate, you shouldn't stop fishing because its harmfull to the pike. Just don't go fishing when the water tempature is too high, and remove your barbs on your hooks. If you handle the pike correctly it wont even remember it has been out of the water. Actually, you can remove the hook from the pike when its in the water.
i can't say that's ... ( 2 months ago by ilikealicia)
i can't say that's entirely true. we may give the impression that we only care about largemouths because that's what the big money tourneys are.
for a part of this country bass may be the only option anglers have. for most of US panfish, trout, catfish, pike, musky provide year-round fun. on the coasts big tuna draw out anglers during summer and autumn months. i get such a rush pulling on albacore and yellowfin every sept and oct.

I believe that. But ... ( 2 months ago by Blastsniper)
I believe that. But i am pissed about that allot of european lure companies focus on the american fisherman, and thus, bass. Even rapala forgot about where they begun. But man, i would love to catch some largemouths sometime. In which state is there the most nature and lakes?
if you drew a line ... ( 2 months ago by ilikealicia)
if you drew a line from Oregon to Pennsylvania, largemouths are virtually everywhere south of it. as for nature and beauty, it's also virtually everywhere, if you like the woods, south and east, if you like more steep terrain you want to come to the west.
where are you and what do you catch?
you can catch large ... ( 1 week ago by JunkYard814)
you can catch large mouth further north of PA. A few of the best bass fishing places in the U.S. are in upstate new york. Lake Oneida and the St. Lawrence have plenty.
