i dont think youd "burn in hell" for questioning the existence of something that far fetched.
if god is such a good person he wouldnt expect us all to just worship him because a book says we should. let alone the people who are uninformed about religion

Really? Did you know that Tolkien was devoutly Catholic? And here's what Tolkien says: "Many that live deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death in judgment. For even the very wise can not see all ends." A very, very Christian sentiment.
I am well aware of ... ( 1 month ago by Windbush)
I am well aware of the fact, but it does not follow that christianity made him more moral than he otherwise would have been. I suspect that it was his expreiences in WW1 that gave him the beautiful wisdom you quoted (he saw first hand the terrible, pointless waste of life). I can certainly quote many passages from the bible that directly oppose this sentiment.
The problem is, ... ( 1 month ago by efvrf)
The problem is, were Tolkien alive, he would almost certainly tell you that you were wrong: his beliefs were quite influenced by his Christianity. You're the one who said Tolkien had a "better quality of morality" than the Bible. I'm just pointing out that the Bible and a deep belief in God were instrumental in directing Tolkien's writings. Being an openminded guy, you might consider that as a meaningful data point: one decent thing among many that Christianity helped give the world.

I'm not a guy ;-) If "christianity" is going to take credit for everything good done by people who said they were christian, then "christianity" also must take credit for all the bad (and there is a LOT of bad) done by people who said they were christian. You can't cherry pick.

lol, good point. We seem to have a bit of a problem with religious people saying they KNOW things they couldn't possibly know.
Just to clarify, I ... ( 1 month ago by efvrf)
Just to clarify, I never said I "KNOW" what Tolkien would have said. I said, "almost certainly" because having deeply studied the author I learned that he was quite devout and his faith influenced his works. That's all. I also never said Christianity should take credit for "everything good done by Christians". Nor did I once discount the evil done by Christianity. Windbush (not a guy) brought up Tolkien as being more moral than the Bible and I pointed out the irony in this. That's all.
Well, today the ... ( 1 month ago by Windbush)
Well, today the average christian is more moral than the bible; most of them have never taken part in ethnic clensing or beating slaves. The average atheist is more moral than the bible. My point was that it is easy to find books that have a higher standard of morality than the bible, so why base your life on a single book?

Music doesn't need to have vocals at all. One could, however, argue that it is not singing. Any way you look at it, it is music though.
