| Is this historically accurate? I'm learning about this in history class, and my textbook says that Burr was like, "Hey, you're giving me shit. We gotta duel," not during the election, but after the Louisiana Purchase (and the third president, Thomas Jefferson, had already been elected for a few years at that point anyway). Hamilton was giving Burr shit for trying to break up the union by getting New England (or just New York) to secede. That's just what I read. |

| I read that Alexander Hamilton let Aaron Burr shoot him, knowing he was the better marksman, and then stood there bleeding, taking his time about aiming, and hitting Burr in the stomach- a fatal wound. Burr's shot hit Alexander in the sternum, and guns at that time weren't powerful enough to punch through bone. At least I think I'm remembering the right book... |
