ok yeah the awd still hellps it pull but yeah i get what your sayin. and i'd take a z any day over a rx.
What a dopey video. ( 3 weeks ago by mvpsmb1)
What a dopey video.
Haha, right. STI ... ( 3 weeks ago by LZKS)
Haha, right. STI and EVO's gives the most performance from the price tag. Many still choose rx8 and 350z because of their own preference and comfort, because STI and EVO are very uncomfortable in everyday driving. They're just cars with high performance, nothing more.
not true. SCCA over ... ( 3 weeks ago by cliffkemp)
not true. SCCA over all winner was a 3 rotor rx8 at low speed cornering for any, I repeat, any production car in the street prep class. It had the fastest time. only the specialty cars and high power go carts had better times. When you come to Atlanta, we can go and see my friend and look it up.
very true. the 8 ... ( 3 weeks ago by cliffkemp)
very true. the 8 actually had the best ride of them all. its over all perfomance and comfort is why it wins comparisons. it may not be the fastest, but it does everything well for what it is.
I like both ... ( 2 weeks ago by clifford850r)
I like both performance and comfort. that's why I drive euro.
Ummmm...what?? A ... ( 2 weeks ago by wasp010)
Ummmm...what?? A rotary engine does 3 revolations for every 1 of a piston engine correct? It spews out TONS of exhaust gasses. Thats why the rotary isn't more common; its harder to pass emmision testing than typical piston engines. With a shitty under-sized turbocharged with journal bearings made out of paper you'll get an extra 100 rwhp. There are 400+ rwhp RX8's as daily drivers. A turbocharger and rotary engine go together like peanut butter and jelly.
forgive me if 400hp ... ( 2 weeks ago by clifford850r)
forgive me if 400hp doesn't impress me much. An audi S4 pushes 500 plus from a program and OEM RS4 turbos. What's your point?
Does a C5 Corvette ... ( 2 weeks ago by wasp010)
Does a C5 Corvette Z06 impress you? Because a 400 bhp RX8 and C5 Z06 have basically the same power/lbs ratio...
No, not really. ... ( 2 weeks ago by clifford850r)
No, not really. There is a little bit of a diference there. The corvette has that power stock. Stock cars are not impressive to me. I'm a tuner and could care less what a car does in its stock form.
Furthermore, I'll ... ( 2 weeks ago by clifford850r)
Furthermore, I'll be pushing 300 give or take a few with a simple factory upgrade turbo and new programing. Look up a K04 and check out the size of that turbo. It's tiny.
how about a 4 rotor ... ( 2 weeks ago by cliffkemp)
how about a 4 rotor pushing 900 NA there is one for you to think about. No too many cars out there than can do that from a 2.6L engine. turbo it and get over 1600hp from a conservative tune. this would impress anyone.
Not on stock ... ( 2 weeks ago by clifford850r)
Not on stock internals,...or at least, not for long on stock internals. Although, I do like rotary engines, that's not the issue so much as the car itself. ie. i love the RX7
I was looking at ... ( 2 weeks ago by ItsEMoneybaby)
I was looking at getting a B5 when i realized i wouldnt be able to drop the LS in my rx7 as planned. A friend of mine had one. Seemed to have alot of problems though. Especially with the turbos going out, even when he babied it. Have you added the K04s? I believe he also bought recycling valves off a RS and put them on and bought an upgraded fuel system. Will you be doing that also?i forgot the lil system of code for upgraded s4s, that would have made this alot easier haha, sorry
Stock so far. ... ( 2 weeks ago by clifford850r)
Stock so far. Darwin intake soon. the turbos are crap to change because you have to do a partial engin pull to change them. At least a lift and tilt because they are so close to the wheel wells.
4 rotor does run ... ( 2 weeks ago by cliffkemp)
4 rotor does run 900hp on stock internals. Actually there is nothing to upgrade on the engine unless you lighten the rotors but, you are only going to take .2 lbs off the 8s rotors as they are about the lightest you can get. The lemans race car had 720hp at 8k but was tested to over 900 at 10k but was limited cause of rules for fuel use. Mazda kept the car at 8.5k for this reason. Car raced 24hours.
Keep in mind that ... ( 2 weeks ago by cliffkemp)
Keep in mind that rotaries were banned from lemans because of an unfair advantage. If not for the fuel restrictions that existed at the time, the mazda 4 rotor would have embarassed audi, jag, and many others. Also, they tore the engine down after the race and said it would go another 24hrs no problem. with 720 hp@8k rpms and 1500lbs, the mazda was unbeatable. With the fuel restrictions lifted, no contest now but, rules were changed so mazda could no longer run.
your talking about ... ( 2 weeks ago by clifford850r)
your talking about a race ready engine though, not one they took out of a stock RX8. All of the engines in that competition were made to last like that, and take on serious power.
As far as internals ... ( 2 weeks ago by cliffkemp)
As far as internals go, there is only 2 mods you can make. nothing to forge or anything like that. the secret with rotaries is intake and timing to a point. good balancing is necessary on any engine but at high rpms like the rotary, you can find a little more power. The only reason they dont make 3 rotors for commercial use and 4 rotors too is due to cost. 4 especially. as far as power potential, the rotaries have yet to be tapped to true potential.
even with ... ( 2 weeks ago by cliffkemp)
even with commercial engines, the hp/L is unrivaled NA. there are so many engine configureations that have yet to be tried with the rotary due to money and time. Everyone gave up due to not understanding how much potential there was. there is much to be learned with the rotary engine. So much so that it will most likely never be tapped as it could have been.
A combustion cycle ... ( 2 weeks ago by spikederailed)
A combustion cycle happens in a rotary engine every revolution of the eccentric shaft per rotor, unlike a piston engine with take 2 crank revs. The ammount of gasses is only relative to displacement. What measured is parts per million pollutants. Rotary engines have a hard time passing smog because of thin long combustion chambers that make it hard to burn all compressed air/fuel, hence the use of multiple spark plugs.
absolutely true. it ... ( 1 week ago by cliffkemp)
absolutely true. it can be overcome to a certain extent but, not much r&d for different size rotors and configurations either. Could make then wider, use more spark plugs, or could make them much smaller and use more rotors. First would cost more in plugs and keeping the side cool, second would sacrifice torque due to smaller rotors but, at speed, would significantly increase tq and hp. there are good and bad in different configs just like with pistons. not much tried with rotary though.
for the record, the ... ( 3 days ago by cliffkemp)
for the record, the race car that won lemans had 720hp and actually weighed almost 1900lbs but the original prototype that was built weighed just over 1500. To race in the class it did, it had to weigh a certain amt and have a certain amt of displacement. Most engines it was racing against had about 3.5L in its class. the mazda had a 2.6
